DOWNHOLE REGULATOR

Downhole regulator is an effective technology for mitigation of torsional vibrations, torque fluctuations and stick-slip. Using of such technology allow to Increase the Rate of Penetration, speeds up the drilling stage and decreases customer’s direct cost proportionally. Accelerated drilling - faster start of production which means faster profit for customer and taxes for country. Decreasing the risk of equipment failures reduces cases of NPT and standby occurrence, respectively reduces indirect customer’s costs.

Downhole regulator works with principle similar to conventional shock tools - absorb loads generated by drilling bit. The main difference of regulator from shock tool is direction of absobed fluctuations. Shock tool effective works with axial vibrations, downhole regulator - with torsional. The main feature of regulator is torque transmission unit which transform torsional movements to the compressional force affecting on disk springs.

Performed calculations complex including the following: compression force under influence of bit torque vs weight on bit, springs stiffness, strength calculation, etc. Successfully completed virtual experiment in specialized software.
